Martin Maloney

Martin Maloney (b. 1961, London, UK) regards his paintings as enjoying the ordinariness of people. He has a directness in making the complexity of colour relationships normally associated with abstraction come to life through figuration. He focuses on ordinary but significant details that are simply described with spontaneity and uninhibited pleasure.

‘Maloney's paintings might simplify what they engage with, but they're not simple-minded. They reach for affect and want to be filled with life and to communicate a kind of enthusiasm and empathy and humour’ - Adrian Searle.

Maloney has exhibited extensively, and noteworthy appearances include Neurotic Realism at Saatchi Gallery, Sensation, YBA’s of the Saatchi Collection at the Royal Academy, the John Moore’s Painting Prize, Timothy Taylor Gallery and Art Basel, Miami.
