Pampila was born in 1941 on the banks of the Fitzroy River at Old Cherabin Station, Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia. He is the son of famous Fitzroy artist Boxer Yanker...
Pampila was born in 1941 on the banks of the Fitzroy River at Old Cherabin Station, Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia.
He is the son of famous Fitzroy artist Boxer Yanker and Paji Honeychild. Pampila learnt to be a stockman on Old Cherabin Station from the age of 12 and worked for 20 years here until the implementation of equal wages when most aboriginal people lost their jobs and livelihood.
In 1989, after 10 years of letter writing to the Government, he was successful in acquiring a 99 year lease on an Excisement from Old Cherabin Station. He established Yakanarra Community which today has over 30 houses and 200 residents, a school, general store, Telecentre and Education Centre. He is an important law culture man for his community.
In 2008 Pampila Hanson Boxer was selected as part of the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Darwin NT.
